Why does this require an account???

As someone who has, and uses, multiple weather and nature related apps, I was exited to read that a nearby National Park had some new cameras installed. To see the time lapse videos, they said, just download this app. I did. After being presented with a log in/sign up page, I promptly deleted the app. I have no use for most apps that require you to have an account in order to use them. On top of that, I cant even connect to the developers web site.
